Hahaha chavs..
I understand where your coming from, theres some pretty atrocious chick flicks out there. But at the same time, theres some where the director got it just right. For instance Love Actually, I think Richard Curtis balanced the story between romance and humour perfectly. Then theres quite a few old Hugh Grant films that arent too bad.
Brutal pieces are good, but theyre, well, brutal. Sometimes you need something light and frothy to take you off of them. But good romance movies have substance, like 500 Days of Summer. When I first saw that I was expecting a cheesy chick flick, but instead I got a whole lot of insight into your average not-fully-requited love story. Not all chick flicks are cliche and fake, just about 98%.
