I think Richard Curtis is fucking terrible as is Hugh Grant. 500 Days of Summer made it clear what type of film it was from the start, that can't be classed as a chick flick in any way. References involving music, and it has a very brutal side to it. The less glamorised way of looking at love, the two don't get married and live happily ever after, they run their race and they move on to other people. Love Actually is terrible as a piece of work, but it's just one you can switch your brain off and watch. That's why I dislike chick flicks, when I watch a film I want a tense cinematic experience. I think there's a difference between having romance in a film and it being a chick flick, romance is good as look as it doesn't become JUST about the romance and the romance being all hearts and butterflies, if it's real - I'll buy it. Chick flicks just aren't real.
