Except in Edward Scissorhands the romance is more of a subplot, while in 500 Days of Summer the romance is the point of the movie. Having relationships in movies doesnt necessarily meen its a romance, but 500DOS doesnt have any other storylines going for it apart from their relationship (and if it does it just means that I havent seen it in a while and should probably watch it again). Its a romance, labelled chick flick. Wheres the drama in it?
I never said Richard Curtis was a good director, only that I liked his films. Cant say I've ever spent much time analysing the cinematography, but if you just 'switch off' and watch them, you might find your being a bit harsh on them.
