I don't know how true that is, or whether it depends on how long you smoke for, but as a smoker I've always been able to smell gas in an instant. As much as sense of smell and taste may diminish, the smell of gas is pretty potent compared to other aromas.You'd have to be an uber heavy smoker for a f*ck load of years or just generally not have a sense of smell to not notice that kind of thing going on...
Unless it was a
really slow leak, maybe...
