I can think of two people off the top of my head with dreads that are self-proclaimed carnivores, but yes, for the most part I think you're right. I still periodically go through vegan and raw food phases, mostly just to detox.
But dreadlocks, beyond a fashion statement, can be a physical manifestation of one's spiritual path through life and and the respective accumulation of wisdom along that path. Many with dreads come to realize this in due time, and understand that the cultivation of that wisdom means treading lightly on the earth and having a marginal amount of reverence and respect for it's inhabitants.
