here's the thing children won't see those pictures as a "group" of people, they'll see each one as an individual person, maybe a kid in their class, or a kid on tv, who knows. but claiming that a child is racist is very stupid, and you're right they have an ego, the child would most likely pick the drawing that looked most like themself, and most would not call themselves stupid.
