Sounded good in theory, and I was afraid for the future of last.fm, but over the past 24 hours I've discovered (via others) some serious faults with this Ping. For one, it's really tied to the iTunes store and is therefore a hassle to do anything while listening to files in your library that were not purchased in the iTunes store (this would account for 99.99999% of my library). From what I hear, if you want to "like" an album you're playing, you have to go look for it in the store, then "like" it. What kind of shit is that? I also hear the recommendation engine really sucks (no big surprise there). The fact that it's built in to iTunes and not online is also probably a big drawback. It sounds like a good idea to integrate this with your music app, but not really.

To combat this, I think last.fm should incorporate more social interactivity in the site, like status and what not. A few years ago I would have been way against this, but since I'm a Facebook user, why the F not. I love talking about music and would love for the site to be more interactive. All I really do there is check my charts...pretty boring when you think about it.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.
