It's cool.
I actually joined for several reasons.
1.
Family Tradition: My family goes back 5 generations of US Naval service. Including both my mother and my father.
2.
Money for School: After my time is done, I will go to college for free, and will even get paid a substancial amount to do so until I finsh my degree.
3.
Training: I've learned some very valuable stuff in the military, a lot of stuff that a lot of big firms are looking for in the civilian side. I have training and knowledge that 95% of the people I'll being going against for jobs won't have.
4.
Pride/Respect: The pride that you get from serving in the world's greatest Navy, and subsequently, the respect that come's along with it is a great feeling and an asset.
5.
Veterans Benefits: 2 letters: VA.
Yeah, it's a risk, and a real pain in the ass sometimes. But the reward in this case is worth the risk. So I'm going to do my time and then go about living a normal life.
