A band would become pretty boring if they just released reruns of previous records, no matter how successful they were.
Teargarden is getting rave reviews and their live shows are equating to how they were in the 90s. Just goes to show.

Oh my god, man, don't even get me started. While I don't think the Smashing Pumpkins are on the fall, I do think they have plateaued and are kind of staying steady in mediocrity now. This isn't Billy's fault though. He always did what he wanted (Adore after one of the most rocking albums of the 90's...Machina after people said they wanted the rocking back). He said he had always hoped his fans were loyal enough to trust him in anything he tried. Zeitgeist was the first album where he listened to EXACTLY what the majority of fans wanted...mindless straightforward alternative rock. I enjoyed it just fine, but it really is the weakest album they have put out.
While I respect what he is doing now with the Teargarden EP's, I just can't listen to them like I used to now that even Jimmy is gone. The drums just don't have the OOMPH anymore, and what is really sad is I can tell these new songs would be holding their own with classic Pumpkins if it was Jimmy behind the kit.
