That's a good point and I agree with you. I'm not like a Dream Theater fan or something; I think most of you realize this about me.
But damn they write some awesome riffs too. Flea has tons of great bass lines and their guitarists were always funky and fairly melody-driven. There isn't much noodling on the guitar in their 80s output...
