absolutely! is this your first Civ or something?
i wouldn't bother with a tutorial unless you need guidance on a particular aspect. though i'd rather just run a game on the easiest difficulty and figure things out from there.
having to research a particular tech rather than building transport ships so military units could cross water is the biggest twist i've noticed so far, though i haven't made it past the middle ages in any playthrough yet.
