It's a show set in an American workplace, in a different country, with different people. Why would you try and force the "British-ness" into it anyway? I consider it a completely seperate show to the British one and it's fantastic.

Coupling was one of the shows that the Americans tried to copy scene for scene and it was a disaster.

Coupling was nothing groundbreaking. We have a lot of shows like that, 20-30 year old single group of friends who swear and shag each other. It's nothing new. But Coupling also had the advantage of having some good writers on board. It's a much more creative show than it looks on the surface. It's far from the "British Friends" it was made out to be at the time.
A British Friends is how it was first described to me. There really are a ****load of shows covering the same premise, so it is almost always the writing that makes or breaks a sitcom like that for me. The jokes in Coupling are spot on...they take jokes that I wouldn't think would make me laugh and I end up cracking up. I'd say the quality is up there with Friends, but it isn't Friends.
