i think it's a necessary part of an individual's personal development. the problem is that most parent's are really not comfortable talking to their kids about the fact that they thought about taking themselves out at some point and would hope their children aren't feeling the same kind of desolation. as a result the social message is 'it's wrong to think about it (because we're too uncomfortable with the topic to address it)'.
