Well, I don't know. I'm glad you liked Clementine, but I'm not sure if there's much meaning to be had in the lyrics. There are undeniable similarities between the songs (I'm familiar with Oh My Darling Clementine, too), and perhaps Washington's words are supposed to refer to saving the life of Clementine, but I don't think there's really any point in the reference besides providing something to sing about.

To be honest, I don't really like these performers anymore, but I posted them because I thought someone else might if they'd come here for Marling. I'm with you, VEGANGELICA, I've got enough of the pseudo-drama one hears in their songs in my life--not very much at all, but enough--that I don't really want to hear music about it. (But there's nothing wrong with those who do!)
