Driving
You're going ninety-five in a sixty-five
I take the wheel, you take a line
Wipe your nose and check the mirror
Turn to me, say, "We'll be fine,"
"I promise we'll be just fine".
I've not called home in well over a month now
They'll panic, worry where I am
I wonder aloud just where we've gone
Cry with my head in my hands,
My scarred up and filthy hands.
And you just keep on drivin'
I don't quite know where to
I wonder if we'll ever get there
And if you wonder, too.
There's headlights in the rearview
Do they know we're runnin' away?
But it all just blends together
The same **** everyday
You pull into a space here at a rest stop
Guess we're stopping here tonight
I line blow up on my compact
Say, "This is all we've got tonight,"
"Can't we try to sleep tonight?"
I can't bring myself to tell you now
That the baggie's almost empty
We both know we're out of money
But that the car's still gotta drive
We just have to drive and drive
And you just keep on drivin'
I don't quite know where to
I wonder if we'll ever get there
And if you wonder, too.
There's headlights in the rearview
Do they know we're runnin' away?
But it all just blends together
The same **** everyday
500 miles away from home
You turn the car around
I guess you're coming down
500 miles away from home
Tweaked out and in the clouds
You ask me to come down
And you just keep on drivin'
I guess we know where to
I wonder if we'll ever get home
And if you wonder, too
There's headlights in the windshield
We must be driving the wrong way
But it all just blends together
And you said we'll be okay.
