My take is the absolute opposite. Rooney stays because he never wanted to leave!
The way I see the whole affair...it started after Rooney said he wanted to sign for life just before going to the world cup.
I reckon his agent told him he was a fool for appearing so eager and on his return should let them know that he won't be signing a new contract.

Therefore, his agent played a blinder? His agent got him a far better deal.
I personally think all that "Rooney is from the streets, he has a genuine love for the game, he'd play for nothing" is complete bollocks.
I don't think he cares WHO pays him, and he's gone down in my book.
If he starts rediscovering his form, all we be forgiven because he'll be doing his bit for the club. But his comments and behaviour has been disgusting.
Rooney and his agent would have been aware of the stir it would cause, hence why their plan worked so well.
People are saying Rooney is bigger than the club now as well, if it would have been anyone else, Fergie would have got rid.
I don't fully know what to make of it all
