I hate this. I know I'm pretentious, but I at least keep it to myself and I really only start to talk about music when I know the other person could at least hold his/her own with me. I never try to "convert" people. When people do that to me I usually just tell them politely "No..really...I'm good" but what I really want to say is "HAHA are you serious? You really have no clue how much music I listen to, do you? I know bands that use tones and sounds that would make your head explode."
That would be really arrogant, though.
