I have just over 1,200 and I wouldn't consider myself a connoisseur or anything - I have a long long way to go. Maybe it's just my standards when listening to music, I don't think there's any pretense there. But if there is, fuck it.
I personally feel to have a real passion or love for music, you'll have 400+ albums.
I think 3,000/4,000 albums is on the money.
And not just quantity over quality either.
3,000/4,000 means lots of records, lots of genres, lots of eras and it makes for a very diverse collection of music.
