Because it's the original film release artwork!
Although I am regularly pleased that many older/cult titles are released on DVD, I get really annoyed if the artwork has changed especially if it looks like some photoshopped crap but that is a cool poster.
You don't change an album cover even if it sucked so the same should apply to movie posters.
Horror movies generally have the most cover changes so that's why I loved the early era of DVD's that included the different overseas artwork for the films either as an extra or in the form of postcards in the case etc.
