Yeah, Opeth is probably the best band to start with if you want to get used to the growl. He sings just as much (if not more) than growls, and when he busts that out it usually takes the song to another level. It definitely helped me appreciate it.

I loved metal in high school, but sadly that included the horrendous nu metal fad. It fell out of my favor and only in the past year or so have I been getting back into it. I have a big thing for music that creates a lot of atmosphere, so black metal definitely gets it for me.

I always show fans of all types of music these guys:



The most Asian metal band you will ever listen to, I promise. Their progressions and overall style is covered with distortion, obviously, but if you listen closely and have some familiarity with Asian music it is clearly VERY Asian. Not to mention the erhu. I love it.

How can you not respect a metal band that can pull this off:
