Quicksand -
Slip (1993)
I've had this album for quite some time, but bob.'s recent post (mini song review thread?) prompted me to throw it on the 'ol iPod. Really a kickin' album straddling the line between post-hardcore and "alternative rock" in the 90s (more post-hardcore than mainstream, but nearly as accessible as
Helmet was around
Meantime). Obviously there is some
Fugazi influence, but many people - myself included - detect similaries with early
Tool. So mash those 3 sounds together - bam. They also often remind me of
Fireside, a Swedish post-hardcore band that had a bit less abrasive yet rougher sound - almost like a
Quicksand-lite. They released their debut a year after
Slip came out - but formed in 92. So if you like this maybe check out
Fireside's
Fantastic Four (94) and
Do Not Tailgate (95).
