My mother and grandmother constantly listened to classic rock (Queen, The Beatles, The Who, etc.) and my mother listened to a lot of Rod Stewart and Elton John as well. My dad listened to a good deal of AC/DC, Blondie, Madonna, and Waylon Jennings, and there was always music playing around throughout my childhood.

When I was nine or ten, my dad bought me a personal CD player, and I thought it was the absolute coolest thing ever! I got money for my birthday as well, and went and bought my first three CDs, which is when I feel that I really got INTO music, and not just the music my parents were playing around me; this was MY music, and there was no turning back.

The CDs were:
Savage Garden - Savage Garden
Jewel - Pieces of Me
Blues Traveler - Straight On Till Morning

Looking back, I still listen to these artists a bit - Blues Traveler more than the others - but it really could have been a lot worse. I think I chose well for being so young!
