Tender Prey is his best, Murder Ballads is my favourite, The Boatman's Call is the less sinister album, more piano based as opposed to his usual Post-Punk style which makes for a gorgeous album. No More Shall We Part and Let Love In are fan favourites and you'll get recommended them a lot, and they are good albums but I personally wouldn't recommend them.
But yeah, he has tons of great albums. Go through his discography and you can't go wrong. I really don't think you can judge him on them 2 albums because they're nowhere near his best.
