High school was a bad buzz for me in this respect... a lot of my friends listened to Disturbed, Slipknot, Nightwish and Killswitch Engage. At least they also listened to Tool (and Opeth, given some coercion).
Nowadays, this isn't such a problem for me... as long as I overlook the fact that some of my good uni friends are hardcore Bon Jovi and Dream Theater fans
