Like nearly all shows (South Park springs to mind for me, and others have described Seinfeld like this) take at least a season to kinda figure out what they're doing. I can look back and watch the first season of South Park or The Simpsons now and get that warm, fuzzy nostalgic feeling, but with both shows I think they take off in terms of quality a little later. For example, my favorite South Park episode is "Rainforest Schmainforest" (first episode of Season 3) and for The Simpsons it's "Camp Krusty" (first episode of Season 4)...
