well, if I may elaborate then, the thing with Kanye is that he came out with this style of music when hip hop was all about the gangster and thug image of the late 90s-early 00s and with
The College Dropout, he brought more of this vibe to the mainstream. There was R&B and rap at the time, but the way that Kanye did it combined the the soul aspect of R&B and the lyrical prowess of hip hop.
and yeah, you can say that there's a large amount of this style present, but Kanye was one of the first in terms of mainstream hip hop to do this, so that may be where some of the appreciation may come from. that and his use of sampling and abilities as a producer.
