There have always been amazing acts that tweak every note until it's perfect and put all of their passion into the music. There have also been stupid jingles written purely to dance to.

However, the most mainstreem, most popular music has probably gotten worse over time, if that's what Kaimon's teacher meant. I mean, in 1969 The Beatles were the biggest band in the world. In 2009 , Lady Gaga was the biggest act in the world (MJ doesn't count, he was only popular for his death). In 2010, it was either Justin Bieber, Eminem, or Lady Gaga. Only one of the three are actually good.
