I generally think of hair metal as being one of the running jokes of rock music, as do most music fans I'd imagine. I mean, hell, even the name "hair metal" is itself a putdown.

Who forgets that? Seems so obvious to me that it's hard for me to imagine people thinking otherwise.
I do agree that GnR is a way better band than any of the others mentioned though.
