Not from what I've heard. I've heard 4-5 of his solo albums, all of the ones people tote as his most 'expansive' and they're not really experimental. Just quick, clean albeit enjoyable instrumental rock/metal. His use of pedals and whatnot isn't very avant-anything, and his solos are still very encroached in safe territory, regardless of how fast they are. Plus his compositions themselves are still often simple and poppy... Nothing wrong with that in the slightest, but it's not experimental.
