Do you think people who rip Green Day do so more because they actually don't like them or because they are bitter they got so big while other seemingly as or more deserving acts did not?

I dunno, really, I can enjoy a Green Day song, even an American Idiot one (if I'm in a good mood), but, idk, there's something about it that, is kind of phony. I don't hate Green Day, but I don't like them.

I used to be in love with them when American Idiot came out though. But I was what, 10? It might be an outgrowing thing too. I gave up Sum 41 recently too. Kinda childish.

I love the stuff from Dookie and before though. 1000 Hours is easily my favorite song my them.

I think a lot of people who rip on them have a personal bias.

American Idiot was basiclly them slapping themselves in the face. Everybody loved and aknowledged them for their old ways of playing, lyrical content, and output, but it seemed with this new album that they entirely changed everything about themselves, their no longer a chill music group you can sit around and smoke weed to, like they once were, they changed their whole persona just to fit back into the musical industry. which to me is the biggest shame an artist can do. MUSIC FIRST! if a record wont sign you because you dont fit into the new modern sound, then screw them and go somewhere else. but dont change to fit in.

If anything I would say the opposite, I think American idiot was more of a nod to the old way of making music. The Rock Opera tracks, the themed album, prior to that they just made a lot of poppy pseudo-punk songs, that sounded great live, but were more commercial and radio-friendly.
