The Will To death six records released in six months (starting June 2004) by Frusciante and his collaborator Josh Klinghoffer. This album uses the most straight forward no nonsense guitar we have yet to hear from Frusciante, with nearly the entire record being done clean. Each of the 12 tracks seem to fit in and flow perfectly with one another. With Frusciante doing nearly all the guitar (except helical) and all of the vocals, and Klinghoffer basically playing everything else the album is a great success for the two.

The drums are for the most part minimalist, and do exactly what they need to, allowing Frusciante's painfully honest voice and guitar riffs to take a strong lead position on the record. Also as usual use of many synthisizers are used in the making of TWTD yet not overbearing and still allow the album to have a very personal sound.

The album starts of with probably the best two tracks on it, A Doubt and An Exercise. Each close to being the fastest and longest tracks of the twelve. Another standout i feel is number seven, A Loop. This song makes me wonder what is going through this mans head to make him sound so sullen and brutally honest. Also his common use of reversing guitar tracks is used throughout the entire track, giving it an eerie feel. Next at number eleven Helical written and performed by Klinghoffer is a very strong piece while also being extremely simple and straight forward at the same time. Last the itle track A Will To Death is a great ending track that almost seems to bring the mood up a little bit, and give the listener some hope for...something.

Over all this is one of the few albums i will give a perfect 10/10. I feel that it is perfect in its own respect, and i definitely recommend to anyone who wants to hear Frusciante for the first time, or just wants to listen to more that he has released. This is easily one of his best solo album, and blows away anything he has ever done with the Chili Peppers. (which is great but no comparison)

Rating: 10/10
