Band of Clouds - Modern Irish Psychedelia

So A friend of mine ( who happens to know these guys ) sent me this. I was absolutely blown away by it. So I really wanted to share it with people. Now I don't know these guys personally, they are from Waterford, but this music is magnificent, I really have to share it with people, even if only a few read this.

I will review each song, even though none of them have properly sunk in with me yet ( they are that good lol )

I bought the album online there last night ( I like supporting local irish bands, especially ones that aren't that well known )

Track by track.

1. No Maps No Compass.

So this song starts the album off nicely, there are some interesting string arrangements and atmospheric music in the backround. It is such a chilled and beautiful track, I knew once I had heard this track, what was in store for me with the rest of the album. The song has this amazing break down aroudn half way through the song. I don't know what instrument it is, trumpet maybe? But it is absolutely beautiful.

2. Forest & The Squirell of Kyle-Na-No

This song is equally beautiful, lol, the guitar riff that runs through out this is so chilled. I really feel like I am floating listening to this. I feel like I am walking through a forest. Once again the trumpets come in here and really make the song, it fades in and out. Quite dreamy.

3. So Long Bitter Root Hill

Probably my favourite song on the album. Beautiful intro, really organic sound. And the vocals are incredibly chilled and ethereal. This music would be perfect to blaze to!

4. The Good & The Generous

This is a nice blissed out instrumental song. With some french guy speaking at the start. Pretty trippy.

5. In Need of Repair

The song is a little bit darker than all the other ones we have heard so far. One thing I like about this album, is that it seems to have the same chilled beat throughout, from song to song.

6. The Poetry of Our War

Another one of my favourites on the album, really dark song as well but at the same time really chilled out ( I am using that word a lot lol )

I also like the lyrics of this song, really metaphorical and suggestive.

7. The Great Silence of Snow

This song has a very interested narrative backdrop, a woman talking about human expression of emotion. Really really beutiful song. With what sounds like a bango playing slowly in the backround. The song picks up beautifully and harmoniously towards the end.

8. Blow in, let go

I love the intro of this song, the way the child is trying to instruct the person playing the instrument, and how that dictates the name for the song. lol.
This song is nothing as dark as the songs that came before it.

9. I Searched Night and Day
This song has an amazing vocal harmony and that fades in and out with the beat, and a really nice psychedelic undertone. It is quite hard to hear the lyrics, like many of the songs on this album, the lyrics and music flow together as one, so it is hard to distinguish them somtimes ( which I really like ).

10. Yorkstons Torture Tapes

This song is the most different song in the album, has an interesting beat to it. Quite a dark atmosphere.
11. Happy Endings

This song finished the album off beautifully, this song is climbing my favourites list for this album. Really atmospheric. It ends on static with a piano playing random notes lightly in the backround.
