Headlong Flight - Single

Musical Style: Rush took a step backwards I would say. But, don't think I mean getting worse I mean literally taking a step backwards. And that is a great thing! I can see them going back to their roots in the 70's. My initial reaction when I heard this song was it's a mixture of "Bastile Day" and "By Tor and the Snow Dog". The instrumental solo part in the middle was like deja vu of by "By tor and Snow Dog", the guitar solo was quite similar which I liked. Plus, the guitar parts and various fills reminded me of "Bastile Day". Excellent style reminding me of what the outstanding Progressive Rock band used to be and obviously still is.

Technicality: The technical ability in this track is OUTSTANDING! I like to consider Rush as an all-star team in that they have some of the best in the world at every instrument they play. Neil Peart is easily the best drummer to ever live, the same can be said about Geddy Lee and his bass. And Alex Lifeson is easily top ten with his famous Les Paul. And in this song they showed it. The drum fills and that short solo was mind-blowing!!! The guitar solo was just, absolutely, positively amazing. Lifeson has done it again. And the bass line could not be beat. Geddy being able to still pull off those notes is amazing however you can tell his voice may be fading. My only worry is how long he'll be able to pull this off. It is outstanding to see these guys still being able to pull off music off this caliber. Rush continues to defy all odds in rock music.

I saw then in August 2010, playing material from this album. I didn't think I'd be waiting this long to hear the whole album, but almost there. They haven't faltered in my book.
