Imagine Dragons - Night Visions (Album Review)

I am just going to start off with saying that this album is going to win awards. Night Visions by Imagine Dragons is an epic masterpiece of insane skill and dedication to music. It is about as good of a debut album as a band can hope for (released September 4th, 2012). These guys will be HUGE in the music world. Their future albums will be featured on the front pages of websites and stores. Banners will decorate music shops when a new album from Imagine Dragons is released. A few months ago, nobody had ever heard of Imagine Dragons. Now, they are changing the way Alternative/Indie-Rock is played and recorded. Every song on this album is just awesome. I have listened to this album probably 25 times already, and it does not cease to entertain. I have only had a few other instances where an album is that good that no matter how many times I listen to it, it still is amazing. No song deserves less than 5 starts, and two thumbs up. Picking a few favorites on this album was an extremely difficult task, as there are simply too many god songs to choose from.

First, Radioactive is an amazing song, both by itself, and as an introduction to the rest of the album. The song starts off mysteriously and then just explodes into a shower of noise, music, and awesomeness. I find myself able to sing along for all of it (even the very first listen). This song has great lyrics, and a beat so cool, it's impossible to not rock back and forth.

Tiptoe is my personal favorite on this album. It starts off with a mysterious intro, then quickly moves to a sweet synth riff that is very catchy. The lyrics to the song are awesome. They are easy to learn and sing along to. If someone asked me "I am new to music, what should I start listening to?" I would point them in the direction of this song (and later, the rest of the album).

Amsterdam is another great song on this album. It is more somber than a few of the other songs on Night Visions. Regardless of this fact, it is not a slow song. It is actually faster paced than expected. The skill of Dan Reynolds, the lead singer, is obvious in this track. He hits many notes that are impossible for most other singers to hit, while maintaining the same voice that quickly has become iconic to Imagine Dragons.

Bleeding out is my second favorite song on Night Visions. The build up that leads to the start of the chorus is amazing. Very well done. The different sounds that Imagine Dragons uses during the chorus and the different verses really add a sense of diversity and a distinct style to the music. The powerful lyrics are chilling and inspiring. The conclusion is epic and completing. There are no loose ends after the conclusion of this piece.

The good: Excellent riffs, catchy choruses, great lyrics, an excellent beginning, middle, and conclusion.

The bad: I would have loved it if this album was hours upon hours long, so I could bathe in the beautiful music for longer.

Score: 10/10

These guys can make a catchy song, but the lyrics are awful. I'm sorry but if a band has ****ty lyrics, that's just a deal breaker for me.

I'm sorry you feel that way! Are there any other bands that are similar but with better lyrics!?

No worries friend. I'm glad you like this LP. and at the moment, I can only think of The Killers. Their early stuff, of course.

Their new album, Battle Born is simply incredible. It reminds me of their older work. You might like it (if you haven't already listened to it).

I've heard mixed reviews. Day & Age was such a letdown, but if you say it's good, then I'll give it a listen.

I think their best album is Sam's Town, closely followed by this album.

Based on your enthusiasm solely, I'm popping both these albums into my "shopping cart": I'll review and let you know what I think...
