Default Three Days Grace - Transit of Venus

“Some things will never happen again in your lifetime” is their slogan for their most recent album, Transit of Venus, and I think they accomplished just that.

Three Days Grace is a Toronto based band, originally from Norwood, Ontario. Lead by lead vocalist, Adam Gontier with Neil Sanderson on drums, Brad Waist on the bass and Barry Stock on guitar. Three Days Grace gets their inspiration from classic rock legends such as Led Zepplin and Black Sabbath. Adam, when talking about their previous album, Life Starts Now, said that they “were inspired by classic rock bands more than anything because they have this really great organic feel, but they sound huge and we wanted to achieve that.” Is this true of this most recent album?

A song that stood out above all the rest was “Expectations.” Through the catchy verses and excellent keyboarding, Expectations has a different sound compared to the rest. Lyrically, TDG talks about the difficult subject of broken dreams. “Crashing with a deadbeat, living large on a love seat, In a small town, no scene, Turns out it was a pipe dream.” Although the lyrics seem a little dark and depressing, it gives hope that we do not always have to have such high expectations.

Another song that I enjoyed was “Operate”. I thought that Neil Sanderson did an excellent job at playing the drums In this song in particular. The drums keep a steady beat throughout the song without being boring. The lyrics seem to say that there is a girl that is not good for him but he likes her anyway. He compares her to pills, which is not the most romantic thing in the world.

Overall I think that this album was awesome and I would recommend it to any rock music fan. Through great musicality on behalf of all the band members, and great lyrics throughout, Transit of Venus has definitely lived up to their slogan.
