ZZ Top's LaFutura

Why did ZZ Top decide to make this album? To answer that question you have to ask yourself why did ZZ Top make any album? Simple it's because that is what they do. They were cool back in the 70s and found their calling with the onslaught of videos which made them known to a even wider audience. Fast forward they fell out of popularity even though RCA signed them to a multimillion dollar recording contract with little success. Now they have decided to give us LaFutura with all the bells and whistles of yesteryear. It's all there the dirt encrusted sound that has become synonymous with ZZ Top!
Rick Rubin is a very smart producer by simply allowing ZZ Top to do what they do best and that is to play a instantly recognizable style of hard, bluesy, with a dash of Southern rock. They open the album with a cover of a song that kind of sounds like their red hot rod should be retro fitted with spinner rims. A disjointed drum and guitar sequence perfectly compliments the dirt in the back of your throat vocal style!
It just gets better and better with the rest of the songs. A throw back to ZZ Top's infancy. Have they progressed? Probably not. Did we actually want them to? Definitely not when they can serve up songs like Chartreuse, Big Shiny Nine, Have A Little Mercy and so on.

A new ZZ Top album produced by Rick Rubin and harking back to their early years?
Sounds intriguing.
I gotta give it a listen!
