I don't have a great way to rate this album, so I'm just going to write whats in my gut right now.

And thats the best way to see Earth Rocker, less as an album to be reviewed, and more of an album to recharge your Shamanistic batteries. Its less sonically ambitious, you get the impression Clutch had enough of being artsy and just wanted to crack skulls, but the lyrics are still as on point as usual, there just isn't harmonicas and organs en mass (there are some).

Definitely check out:

1. Mr. Freedom
2. D.C. Sound Attack
3. Nah you know what, check out the whole god damn thing
4. Gone Cold (Acoustic)

I'd give it a 5, but I like harmonicas and organs. If there were a 4.5, I'd give it a that.

Mr Freedom was good, so I'm checking it all out.

It was a good album but wasn't mind blowing. Not everything needs to set my world on fire, but I do kind of expect a little bit more from Clutch, especially after Strange Cousins From the West (2009).

Maybe I need to listen to it a couple more times to let it sink in.

Some killer tracks on this. Starts out with that classic Clutch vibe and Neil grabs you by the ears and screams in your face for 44 minutes. Save for Gone Cold. I grabbed my nylon and played along with that one. Nice little Cmin blues riff on that, then I stuck around for the E jam on The Face. I think the lack of organs keeps the pure raw sound in tact. Overall this is Clutch at their craft, like it or not, it's got gumption.

I'm buying this one.

I bought this a while ago, and I would agree with what you guys said. Overall it wasn't as mindblowing as some earlier stuff, but really this is the type of album you put on a car ride with your friends when you just want to rock out. It does have some cool change-ups in a number of songs and the riffing has gotten a bit more complex and varied from the usual Clutch style.

It's got a very clear focus that it goes for though, which is pure rock (fury).

Pretty different from earlier releases, such as Robot Hive/Exodus(my favorite Clutch album), where they would have a number of uptempo tracks, but it would be intermixed with the more bluesy/stoner stuff or even just tracks that varied more than what's on here.

So yeah, it's a 4 from me. I liked it good bit, but it didn't catch my imagination like stuff before.

Favorite Tracks:

Crucial Velocity
Mr. Freedom
D.C. Sound Attack
Gone Cold
The Face
Oh, Isabella
The Wolf Man Kindly Requests...

Love the transition from Gone Cold to The Face. Some magic right there, but my favorite track on the whole has to be Oh Isabella. Some nice Octaver usage on that. Been listening to this constantly over that last few days.

Thanks Antonio. We didn't have time to get it ready, but we rocked it pretty hard yesterday. Next Saturday we should be all good.
