King Tuff - Black Moon Spell
 

One of the albums I’ve been most excited about for a while. The music sounds like Jack White is playing lead with My Morning Jacket. The vocals are like Ween and Veruca Salt if they sang the lyrics written by a music consulting firm manned by Electric 6, Alice Cooper, and Steel Panther. And the snarl on the vocals was the love child of Axl Rose and Jello Biafra.

Who is this guy? Who cares? If Garage Rock had a love affair with the Surf Rock influenced by the Beach Boys then this album would be it. So many it did? I don’t know. Any time you waste reading this write up is another second you’re not hearing this album, and that’s a stupid decision. Stop making stupid decisions.

I fvcking love this album. It's Tuff's best yet imo, Headbanger, Black Moon Spell, and Eyes of the Muse are my favorites.

Would you agree with my read on how to describe him, or did I leave something out/add too much?

I listened to this when you first published your review, and I didn't really enjoy it, but after giving it a couple more plays, I'm starting to dig it. The vocals turned me off a bit at first, but after getting used to them, I'm beginning to appreciate the lyrics.

I'll give you that the vocals are the weakest part (and suck) but the songs, lyrics, riffs...all killer (imo)

I've been following this band since 2012, fvcking loved them and still do. They've always had a real 70s vibe to um and they kill it live. they got a little heavier on this album with a ouple tracks, which I totally dig. but yeah. I guess campy, 70s throwback garage rock fits the bill propers. there's definitely a bit of a punk edge to them, there's always a killer pit at their shows. not the uber violent kind, just a bunch of stoned drunkards hugging and jumping into each other. It's kind of rad. I def recommend everyone see them live if they get the chance, just to get the full experience. I think King Tuff's 'real' name is Kyle? Anyways, he's a chill dude and always hangs with his fans outside his shows. He even gave a guitar to some 13yo fangirl on stage once. It was really special, truly. The little kid's gonna be such a badass when she grows up. Bishes dunevenknow. They dunevenknow.

I was really happy with this record. His last one was a little better though, and he's def showing signs of becoming a parody of himself, (notably in "Headbanger", the riff saves it though).

Have you heard "Happy Birthday"? Its a side project of his with more of a power-pop slant. His best work imo.
