Papa Roach 2 New Singles REVIEW

Papa Roach is an American Rock band from Vacaville, California. They are known for the songs "Last Resort" and "Scars", which were relatively popular in the early 2000's during the Nu-Metal/Rap Rock breakout. They are working on a new album called F.E.A.R. (Face Everything And Rise), which is set to release January 27th of 2015. I am going to review their singles they recently released for the album, the title track Face Everything And Rise and the other single Warrior.

The first track "Face Everything And Rise", is a really good track. It has Metalcore influences, some Industrial influences, and not much else. The one thing I don't really get is, this is the last thing I'd expect from Papa Roach. Even the instruments are something Papa Roach usually doesn't do. When you compare a typical Papa Roach song like "Last Resort" (Everyone knows this song so it's a good idea to use it as an example) to this track and the other single, "Warriors", it sounds like a completely different band with Jacoby Shaddix (Singer of Papa Roach) as a guest vocalist. Same thing applies with Warriors.

Speaking of Warriors, there's a rap verse in the song. Like, seriously, it seems like they are taking a completely different step than they have on their other albums. This doesn't make these songs or what's to come of them any worse, but some people might be turned off this way. Also, the song is very repetitive. It keeps repeating the verse "We are the warriors" which makes the song seem bland and they didn't really give a damn about adding variety.

In conclusion, these are good tracks. It has some Rap/Hip Hop, Metalcore, EDM, and Industrial influences which make the songs sound good and add on to the appeal fans of said genres like. While they are in a way repetitive (Warriors more repetitive than Face Everything And Rise), they are still enjoyable and made me guilty of listening to more than once.

Overall, I rate these songs as a whole :thumb: out of  and I look forward to their new record.

F.E.A.R. (Face Everything And Rise) is the worst name for an album I've heard in a very long time.

^Worse than Trivium's recent Vengeance Falls? I don't know what it is, but there's a certain type of name for an album that is just cringe worthy.

How is a rap verse in any way a departure for Papa Roach?

Either this person hasn't heard early Papa Roach songs, or they can't recognize a rap in nu-metal song.

But I'll put myself out on a hook here and admit that I still listen to Papa Roach here and there, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't check out the new music they have made available from FEAR so far. You could label it a walk down nostalgia lane.

Bland band. They were actually in the news earlier this year for this bit of lulz though:

PAPA ROACH Frontman Says He Got Herpes From Kissing His Uncle. What?! - Metal Injection

Yeah, well, Jacoby can really come off like a pretty big, ego inflated douche sometimes. He's known for it. I bought their last album for old times sake, had a few decent tracks on it.
