Grateful Dead: One From The Vault, Two From The Vault, & Three From The Vault

I was just in Cleveland Ohio at Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame when I found this box set in the store. It contained the albums "One From The Vault, Two From The Vault, & Three From The Vault." I got it for around $40. I listened to each album and here were my thoughts.

"One From The Vault"
August 13th, 1975

This concert was for the release of "Blues For Allah," which I think is one of the better albums. It starts with the song "Help Is On The Way" going into "Slipknot!" These two songs really are beautiful, and I thought were great openers. Sadly, this is not my favorite of the three. It is my 2nd favorite. It is really good but a lack of bigger hits from them is kinda sad. (Not saying I just wanna hear the hit songs.) I really love the instrumental "Sage And Spirit" though. If you ever get the chance, listen to this song. It is wonderful.

"Two From The Vault"
August 24th, 1968

This was my least favorite, but is still pretty good. I thought the performance of "Dark Star' was very good and the same with "New Potato Caboose." This CD is more for the die-hard fans, which I am not, yet. This is probably my least favorite of the bunch.

"Three From The Vault"
February 19th, 1971

My favorite for sure. It starts with a little jam session where Jerry Garcia's guitar is heard loud and clear. It goes right into "Truckin." The performances on this are the best. Another reason I love this performance is the crowd. They are cheering the whole way through and I love it!

Honestly, I can say it was worth the money. It really is fun to hear a legendary band progress through time. This album is more for the Deadheads and people who love some jam.

8/10

I found your brief summary of these three albums very interesting. There is just so much Grateful Dead material out there, that it's always useful to learn which are the albums to investigate. Thanks for the tip about Sage and Spirit - it's a nice track, but not in the same league as their American Beauty material. That's their best album, imo.
