Ace of Spades
 

Motorhead, an essential for heavy metal, started out with a foggy future, having their debut recordings go unnoticed until 1979. Overkill set them on a path to fame which had a chance of being temporary. Bomber helped to continue their fame, so it was apparent the band might have been in their golden age at that time. However, they had no ides Acr of Spades would becoming nothing short of a must-have for any metal fan. This was the album that set them in history.

The album starts with, as Motorhead albums do, the best album on the track: Ace of Spades, which might have slight production flaws here and there, but keeps some great production values at other times to help the fuzziness of the album work towards the track's advantage. The entire album maintains their hard rock roots, but steers closer towards heavy metal by constantly using fast paced tempos that helped pioneer the early stages of speed metal. Unlike the earliest Motorhead albums, Lemmy uses the same vocal style throughout the whole album. In past albums, Lemmy experimented a little and he didn't need to with this. But that can't possibly get tiring. That just means he found his sound. He found a way to make it better. He held his vocals much better throughout this album than he did in past albums. The similar style is kept through the entire album in a manner that rarely gets tiring. All of the songs remain different enough to continue throughout and maintain itself. Motorhead is very sure of their sound.

Another great aspect of Motorhead from past albums that the album improves on is the love of riffs. Fast Eddie had put up some mildly iconic riffs before in Overkill. Ace of Spades manages to top them with many of the songs on Motorhead. Thankfully, the fuzziness was a bit cleared up by the producer to keep Motorhead's past sound while allowing listeners to truly hear Motorhead's skill. That's shweet. This allows people to truly hear Eddie's riffs.

Overall, Motorhead's Ace remains a must-have for metal fans. In fact, it's kind of hard to spell metal's sound out without Motorhead. They were the generation of metal after Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and Deep Purple helped to make the sound. Motorhead. They made it real. Thanks to Ace.

AOS didn't get a lot of radio airplay, at least not where I lived at the time. I don't recall MTV playing it outside of the Head Bangers ball show. I knew of a band called Motorhead, read about them but never actually heard them until years later. I agree that AOS is an essential album to own if you are into metal.
