Or rap, we don't have anyone for rap, cause I will say I cannot do rap. Ill take blues back, have Johny rip up some beats review.

hookers with machineguns 11-23-2005 10:27 AM

We still need writers! Also, the reggae/ska, pop, and electronica forums don't have ANY writers. STEP UP TO THE PLATE YOU BASTARDS!

sleepy jack 11-23-2005 05:49 PM

I suggest all nite dinah for ska..

I can do pop if no one else will take it...*feels ashamed* i'd have to read alot but i know a shizzload about 80s pop.

Merkaba 11-23-2005 06:01 PM

jibber might be able to help with reggae, she seems to know a bit after briefly looking through the forum.

Yeah pop wouldn't be too hard to do, nothing a bit of research can't fix:)

riseagainstrocks 11-23-2005 07:07 PM

Metal is 75 % done. I'll have it finished up hopefully by Sunday.

It is metal. duh.

Merkaba 11-23-2005 07:29 PM

I chose Progressive and Psychadlic Rock to be my subjects, you?

Merkaba 12-23-2005 06:52 PM

Wanna do the grunge area too? Since you've got it down to an art;)

I'll cover everything else I guess. Wonder who I give it to...

Spose I could PM it to you, Riseagainstrocks?

sleepy jack 12-23-2005 06:54 PM

I think.
You work with who your doing with then you guys decide one person to post it in one giant thread entitled "Rock Eduacation thread" then you have a mod sticky it.

=)

Grammar nazi you say? ;)

riseagainstrocks 12-27-2005 08:10 PM

Well, most of the time.

hookers with machineguns 12-28-2005 02:48 PM

The rap one will be posted tomorrow hopefully. I know you guys are all dying to read it too ;)

The punk one will be posted very soon. Either tonight or tomorrow.

I have something kinda written for indie, but I'm reluctant after reading some of the differing opinions in the indie forum.

Good job riseagainst and misfits on the metal one (no grind though?). Keep your eyes and ears open to see if anyone has backed out of doing their part. I havent heard anything yet so I'm assuming everyone will post theirs when they're done...?...

sleepy jack 12-28-2005 02:52 PM

Hes working on grind.

maybe talk with some of more knowledgeable people, expletive, urban, etc. they know what they're talking about and have varying opinions. make a mixture me thinks. i mean you can't define indie, it defeats the purpose of the word.

hookers with machineguns 12-28-2005 03:28 PM

^ I thought about that, but their opinions on indie are a little too strong. I agree with you, indie is sort of defined by its lack of definition if you will, a variety of interpretations of what it was, what it is, and what it should be. Both have great taste in music, but I never approached urban about it, because he seems like the type that wouldn't bother with this (some of the really obvious people to do these things never returned my PMs, so :( )

Merkaba 02-08-2006 02:21 AM

So I have done the Rock Thread, and I'm about to make a start on Grunge. I figured it's not worth doing a thread solely for Grunge, but maybe if I did a "movements" thread which includes some other important moves in Rock history I could make it a seperate thread.

The one thing is I don't want to make a claustrophobic first page with around 6 or 7 sticky's, it's too many. So should it just become another segment of the Rock thread, thats probably a better idea right?

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-08-2006 10:46 AM

Britpop for the pop forum ?

I don`t want to go to all the effort if it`s not wanted

hookers with machineguns 02-08-2006 03:26 PM

^ LOL, it's not like you need permission from anyone! But as you can probably tell from some of the others, there's only probably a handful of real music fans here that'll be your main audience.

Well I was looking for feedback rather than permission

Scarlett O'Hara 02-09-2006 02:38 AM

^ I think that's a good idea Urban! What about the 90's pop band phenominas? (sp?) The ones that inspired the pop bands of today, e.g. Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, Westlife. Or would that be included in Britpop? I could help Urban write it.

I'm really into 60's pop, and then there's 70's and 80's, so maybe there could be a different pop thread talking about the generations of pop, aside from Brit pop. Lol...whatever, just give me some feedback, and a cookie.

Hehe, maybe this should actually get stickied?

PerFeCTioNThrUSileNCe 02-09-2006 02:51 AM

if you create it....ill sticky it.

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-13-2006 01:07 PM

Now that people have posted a few of these how about giving a list of say 20 songs from each genre/sub genre of what you consider the best in that genre to check out for those people not familiar with them.

Muzak 02-13-2006 02:22 PM

I cant wait for the Ska one (hopefully there will be one).:yeah:

It'd be nice if people just started recommending their own list of songs in the threads, that way it's not just me or whoever going "hey! listen to this" and no one paying attention. It also sexes things up a bit.

I see what you are saying , I just think that because they are supposed to be education threads it wouldn`t hurt to list a few of the best songs by those bands.
For example it`s easy to say listen to Alice Cooper if you want to check out some glam rock , but he has something like 30 albums out.

Naming a few of the best songs & letting people hear them would more than likely make people want to listen to more.

Muzak 02-13-2006 03:50 PM

Well, seeing that anyone can start it i decided to make a Ska one based off of a few articles off the internet(most of it is from wikipedia) though I am not done with the sub genres.
Here is what i have so far, please feel free to post feedback and info, ect. :)

I assume these are members of this board. Do they come here often?

Yes, maybe not as often as others, but that wouldn't affect their vast knowledge of the genre.

It looks good. It would kinda be nice to see some examples under each wave.
