The 15 posts rule

I'm tired of all these assholes that spam the shit out of the board just so they can post some fucking link. What would be the drawbacks of allowing them to post them right away? Would the spam really multiply? I don't think anyone is really discouraged to spam by the rule (obviously) and I think if we remove it it'll actually be easier to keep the board clean.

Thoughts? :\

Its difficult to say really, i'd rather have somone post a link rather than post stupid replies in random threads just to post a link.
Let's have a trial period!

I assume that rule does discourage some spammers but I've never modded without it in place so I don't know how much of an effect it has. Some spammers aren't bothered by it though.

If we take away the rule, the number of spammers will probably increase. If we increase the post limit, then more stealth spamming will occur and it will be harder to weed out the spammers until they've hit 50 posts (or whatever) and are spamming links.

Does it actually say anywhere when you're joining that you won't be able to post a link until you post 15 times? Because if it doesn't, I figure people join and then after they find out they can't post a link just spam away...it's not like it's hard to make 15 posts. :\

Maybe we can increase the minimal interval between posts, if you put the minimum to be 2 minutes it would take them 30 minutes to get 15 posts...now that's a chore...that could backfire of course.

I dunno, but this 15 posts rule isn't really working...and I'd rather not have their spam cluttering up perfectly good threads...:|

When you try to post a link with fewer than 15 posts under your belt, you receive this error. But I'm not sure if there's a warning about it when you register (good idea though - we should implement it if there isn't).

You are only allowed to post URLs to other sites after you have made 15 posts or more.

There's a 1 minute floodcheck on another forum I post on which works well. 2 mins might be a bit too much but I guess we could try it.

I am a mod on another board. We have a feature where new members to the board have a "delete as spammer" button attached to their posts, so that if they are obviously there to spam we could delete their profile and all of their posts with one click of the mouse. It made things quick and easy. The button is only available during their newbie period.

I'm happy with the 15 posts rule.

It makes these people much easier to spot and deleting 15 posts takes exactly the same amount of time to delete as one post.

That doesn't make sense. If they're allowed to post links right away, they'll just make a thread and post them, right away, instead of spamming and then making a thread with the goddamn link...http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/c...wer/neznam.gif

They can't post clickable links straight away and they are easier to spot witha build up of two sentence replys in multiple forums to get a link up. There really is no easy solution as this is a non profit website and the mods are just regular guys. We try our best and it is a thankless task as many people know!
