html

i think you should be able to use html embedded codes and what not.
on the censorship side of this...do away with it....make a minimum age requirement for this site... if kids lie? well make a disclaimer...captcha codes e-mail verifacation...DON'T TAKE THE SMILEYS!
anymroe i shoudl add to this?

Well, there are BBcodes that replicate the html and possibly php code that the administrator would like users to be able to use.

What is your argument? That codes should also work in <b>html form</b> or that anything should go, not just the coding translated to BBcodes?

Sounds like a bad idea to me, but if you have code-snippets that you'd like to see available as BBcode tags, I'm sure that's a possibility if you can convince the administrator it will be useful.

edit :

What more do you need than center, image, various font styles, colors and sizes .. and youtube?

coryallen2 02-19-2009 06:07 AM

you should be able to use any html that you want to use html is fun like i don't really no how to explain but adding pictures and stuff

Guybrush 02-19-2009 06:13 AM

What? You'd rather write <img src="address"> than just the BBcode? ..

What for?

The BBCode is in to make it easier for people to do that kind of stuff. Making it harder seems like a bit of a contradiction. And why not just use the BBCode? It does whatever you should need to do on a forum.

If you wanna use <table>, <body>, <title> codes and stuff like that in posts, I don't think that should be possible at all. You could probably break a thread with it, it sucks for security reasons and people would be able to basically just slap the code of entire html pages into their posts. I'm afraid to think of what spammers could do with such opportunities .. horrible idea.

coryallen2 02-19-2009 06:15 AM

well why can't they just use both?
like... <p> <br> and stuff makes your paragraphs look more formal....not a cluddered mess... but i think it should be optional

Guybrush 02-19-2009 06:29 AM

<br> is redundant since you need only press the "enter" key to get a line break in your posts. <p> is also largely redundant for the same reason.

Press enter twice and that should leave an empty line between your "paragraphs". Don't forget that when posting, you can click the "Go advanced" button to get more options. Maybe you'll see some stuff you've been missing there.
For example indents.
Using both html and bbcode when one does the job is unnecessary bloat and fluff.

I don't really understand your argument or what it is you're wanting to debate at all from this .. To me, it doesn't seem like you make any kind of effort so that people will understand what you mean with your posts.

coryallen2 02-19-2009 06:37 AM

im saying that do away with chat filters...you have chat filters if kids somehow find their way here? well make it an obligation to sign up to view/post on this website.make minimum age requirements....what don't you understand?

Guybrush 02-19-2009 06:41 AM

I wasn't sure if you were talking about the profanity filter or some other kind of censorship that goes on, for example removal of some of the things that constitute spam here.

Personally, I don't like profanity filters, especially not when they interfere with what you write even when you're not posting swearwords. Names and discussions about homosexuality are good examples. However, I can see why they have them because there are so many users on these forums. I would be happy if they just removed some of the words from the filter, particularly the word gay.
