Not really. Tons of people get banned everyday, they don't need to be celebrated in any way, even ironically.

coryallen2 02-23-2009 07:12 AM

Piss Me Off 02-23-2009 07:15 AM

It's not anything really, some dude posts some links and i ban him and it takes about half a minute.

coryallen2 02-23-2009 07:19 AM

you ever have them come back and beg for a second chance?

Piss Me Off 02-23-2009 07:22 AM

Sometimes, most of the time they come back for round two.

coryallen2 02-23-2009 07:23 AM

lol i would unleash the wrath of an IP ban then laugh

Isn't there some way you could take links off and just warn them before banning them? I think some people honestly don't know the rules the first time they come on the site. They start posting links to their music before they find the thread about rules or before anyone can fill them in on the rules first. Or, at least, electronically force them to read the rules before they can register. You might be talking about the really obnoxious ones--I don't know. But, I think some people just don't know in the beginning....

Piss Me Off 02-23-2009 11:11 AM

If someones come on here to advertise something then there's very little chance of them staying around and contributing if their links or whatever are taken down. In the end it's a lot easier than having to trudge around editing threads and signatures.

Yesterday when I came online here I had to delete 6 accounts and all their posts and about about 12 threads , and deal with 2 members queries which meant spending approx 15 mins doing this before I could even begin to post anything myself.

If I was to edit all the posts individually and then start PMing reminders to people telling them to read the rules, then you could add about another half hour to that.

And the thing is only a small minority of these spammers bother coming back once they've got their spam posted to read these PMs.

Instead of spammers the Hall Of Shame should include the best of the worst. WendyCal, Cobe Kai, RockGuitar101 etc.

Ok, got it. Seems like there could be an electronic mechanism to save you time though--e.g., forced terms of agreement before people sign up, or a way of preventing adding links until members have 25 posts. But, you've been at this longer then me, so...

i think that it is a matter of courtesy to inform people why their posts are being deleted. i made two dozen posts today. they are all gone, and i have no idea why.

i did not post any links.
i did not break any rules.

it's a very strange feeling, trying to become part of a online community, only to be pushed away with such vehemence...

right-track 02-27-2009 01:35 PM

Your welcome here.
If your posts were deleted, then I'm sure there was a good reason.

Re-read the rules if you're unsure of something.

Strange. I didn't see anything wrong with your previous posts.

i totally get what you're saying here but i think johne has a valid point with the idea of displaying the terms before joining. although from what i remember that already happens. maybe just a terms for dummies version with the main points in bold, especially the ones that hit a grey area (like myspace links in their sig)

maybe something like:

1 - single word posts are frowned upon
2 - making 15 posts as fast as possible so you can drop a link in your 16th then not posting again that day will get your account deleted.
3 - don't put a link in your signature until you've bookmarked the site and made it part of your regular surfing routine.

If someone is registering just to spam/advertise they're just going to look at that and keep going.

mr dave 02-27-2009 08:38 PM

true enough, although it might prevent some noobs from making the mistake

garbanzo 02-27-2009 10:50 PM

ok this post used to be a big long rant but that does no good to nobody.

so i'm just going to shut up and keep posting about music.

i'll wait for my 50th post before i even think about posting a youtube video again, just so nobody else accuses me of being a spammer :)

TheBig3 02-28-2009 04:55 PM

I actually know a spammer in real life. My boss at work got banned from ****ign facebook for spamming her moronic book tour on every group she joined.

She joined groups just to promote her ****. I can tell you right now, spammers are folks how have an agenda and its not suitable to ours.

see there's a fine line between promotion and being a general sh*thead. if you're going to access media with a large viewership and divert attention for an ulterior purpose you're much better off taking an advertisement out of a paper.

i just don't understand how these spammers are able to justify being complete c*nts. do those extra one or two listens matter enough for them to abandon respect for others?
