This place is so dead

I haven't noticed many new members that have actually stayed more than a week since i joined in March. Replying to the same people over and over is kind of getting boring. I haven't seen a new thread in the metal section for months, i would expect coming to the biggest music forum that there would be a few more posters with a little bit of diversity around here.

simplephysics 10-11-2009 08:43 PM

Uh, what the hell do you want us to do about it? Should we form a musicbanter street team or something?

I doubt you'll find many music forums as active as musicbanter, but if you discover one.. please.. be my guest..

khfreek 10-11-2009 08:44 PM

more diversity? funny coming from you

gunnels 10-11-2009 08:44 PM

Yeah man this place is going down the tubes you're just wasting your time here. Go look for another forum and be happier there.

someonecompletelyrandom 10-11-2009 08:47 PM

Time spent = replies recieved.

kouki 10-11-2009 09:34 PM

I noticed most of the action takes place in "the lounge". Theres always new posts there.

The "the lounge" is like between Bizarro World and kinda pulls you in like a Black Hole.

Darkest Hour 10-11-2009 10:14 PM

I just thought the metal section would be more active. Many of the threads go unnoticed for a long time or maybe get a few replies and then they disappear forever, lol.

Then you shouldn't be complaining about musicbanter not being diverse enough if you're only worried about one forum.

SATCHMO 10-11-2009 10:35 PM

Can I rename this thread to "My Vagina Hurts"?

His experitse lies in one musical genre, and habitually visits that genre's forum so he's more aware what happens in that forum, but he's generally concern about MB, but what he said about HM forum kinda rings true of some other forums too.

Yours does too?

It's been a long day

mr dave 10-11-2009 11:11 PM

well consider the fact that the majority of the active users are still in school in one form or another. it's now mid-october, which would mean the fluffly month spent readjusting to going back to class is now over and the actual school work has kicked in with full force. anyone paying money to attend class is probably spending a little more time on assignments rather than posting.

it's a yearly thing. a forum picks up in the late spring / early summer then dies down again later in the fall.

No, it's been the same since i got here. The metal sub forum has like 3x more posts than any other sub forum, but there really isn't much discussion in there on any bands. Other than Megadeth, Metallica and a couple others.

Bulldog 10-12-2009 12:51 AM

I really don't see what purpose whining about it serves. If it's that bad, do something about it, whether it's finding somewhere else that'll get just as 'dead' after the amount of time you've spent here or putting time and effort into what you post here in order to make it interesting.

Because most of the bands newly mentioned just sound like everyone else. There are very few individual bands in the Metal scene these days with far too many jumping on a tried and tested template or if they are a little different they don't get any mention because it seems not to be cool to dig them. The same happened in the late 80's with hundreds of Thrash bands that sounded the same. I have been listening to metal for over 20 years and only one or two new bands a year actually float my boat in terms of individuality or prowess.

Maybe you should delve back into older metal and maybe you might find a few gems and start commenting on them.

A bit off-topic but I came across an album I think you might like. You ever hear of an experimental/black metal band called Oblomov?

Seltzer 10-12-2009 06:41 PM

No offence, but if you're only going to listen to metalcore and a bit of melodeath (a small subset of one subforum), you'll be forever replying to the same people and seeing a blank space where you think new threads should be.

Urban Hat€monger ? 10-12-2009 06:43 PM

If you're bored of the same people replying to your threads I'll only be too happy to tell you what I think of the 4 metalcore bands you listen to.

Alright! About time someone wants to talk about music, come on tell us what you think of his 4 metalcore bands.

Darkest Hour 10-29-2009 01:32 AM

yeah, how are they? What is your favorite one?

jennysimsmusic 10-31-2009 03:58 PM

I joined recently, and got quite a few people welcoming me on the topic I made - this alone shows me people are using the forum, if they are willing to just welcome a random person they dont even expect to stay for long.

Many people complain about things, it seems to be the nature of many people to tell groups, shops or whoever what they have done wrong, with no solutions in mind. this is in no way constructive, if you want something done you should have some ideas yourself, why should anyone sort out a problem that they didnt even worry about, and wasnt even regarded as a problem before you brought it up. In my opinion, if you get some good topics going, people will happily discuss with you, dont rely on others to do the work for you.

right-track 10-31-2009 05:47 PM

Very true.
It's my experience that people tend to veiw these boards from a personal perspective.
It's always the longer standing members who at some time or other become a little jaded with the site. I know, I've done it myself.
These members very rarely leave and the boards bob along as they always have.

jackhammer 10-31-2009 07:05 PM

Darkest Hour. There is a thread about 50 metal albums that you haven't commented on. Whether you like the choices thus far, it's a thread that you could take in and comment in instead instead of bitching about the fact that no one digs the latest Metalcore band.
http://www.musicbanter.com/rock-meta...at-albums.html

This is how the forum grows and the very reason why the veterans get pissed off when it's claimed that the forum is dead. If you persist in keeping a closed mind then you will always be perpetually bored by the forums and your opinion frowned upon when you don't take the time to invest your ears in something outside of your usual listening parameters.

Mojo 11-01-2009 01:31 PM

I have to say, i agree with the above. The reason i have stayed here is because there is a reasonable amount of activity across all the boards and i like to go in and out of each of them looking for music that is new to me.

If i was gonna spend all of my time in the rock and metal boards, or possibly in just one of the sub boards then i may aswell go and find a more specific forum.
