Musicbanter Mixtape

8tracks | Handcrafted internet radioThis is a link that will take you to a mixtape website, sort of like Rhapsody or any of the others that let you create mixtapes. This 8tracks is a website I really enjoying for browsing mixtapes or creating my own. It is kind of like the missing link between Twitter and Last.fm.

I had the idea of creating an account for Musicbanter and do member suggestion. Essentially you would create us a mix, zip it and upload it then send us the link. We would then download your mix and then upload it to 8Tracks giving you credit for the mix and then linking over to the forums. It would be a good way for the forum to get exposure, create new members who already have a vested interest in music, and potentially create new friends for people who share similar interests in music.

I know it seems like a kind of ridiculous process to go through, but it helps us keep control over the password.

If anyone is interested in going forward in this project, speak now or forever hold your peace.

I also think that anyone who wants to upload a mix should download at least one of any previous ones and give opinions instead of a whole slew of unlistened comps out there.

You don't actually download the mix, you stream it and it follows a kind of cassette tape mentality. You can only skip two songs per hour, so you have to be very selective about what you put on your tape, to make sure each song works for your theme, or whatever.

I get ya. I was more pertaining to the fact that many might put up their mixes and not bother with anyone else's and feedback would be good for people actually taking the time to make them.

It won't just be us Musicbanter members with access to the mix, anyone can browse and play them. That's actually my hope, to allure some new members who already have a vested interest in music, well enough to create a mix tape at least.

You already know I'm down for this, but here's my yes vote anyway.

LoathsomePete 08-01-2010 09:50 PM

Well that's good, lets just hope some actual members get on though. It might get boring if it's just mods music... or maybe not.

Bulldog 08-02-2010 06:46 AM

I'll give this a go as well Pete.

As you say, it'd be nice we got some non-mods to throw their weight behind this too though.

duga 08-02-2010 12:25 PM

This sounds pretty cool...I say yay.

storymilo 08-02-2010 02:38 PM

Yes indeed. It'll be like... musicbanter radio. Kind of.

Speaking of which, wouldn't it be so cool if Mb had it's own radio station? Not that that would ever happen. But still.

LoathsomePete 08-02-2010 03:02 PM

We were actually discussing that earlier in the year but decided that we probably wouldn't get our money worth because when it came to people actually committing to their program, the excuses would come flying out. With this we don't risk losing any money, just time if people aren't interested, and I'm more OK with losing time.

Anyway that said I'd like to at least get 5 non-mod members interested before I start the process.

Sansa Stark 08-02-2010 07:43 PM

I also say yay

+81 08-02-2010 07:47 PM

Sure. I love when people put some effort into how their mix works as a whole.

downwardspiral 08-03-2010 02:51 AM

'kay.

When you say "send us the link" I assume you mean to you, Mr. Loathsome. Correct or will the 8tracks u/n and password be provided to those who are interested, in the same fashion as the our ever neglected community mediafire account?

Freebase Dali 08-05-2010 07:44 PM

He means you just upload him the tracks (send the link to where you uploaded) for him to upload to the site, so he has control over the username/password so things don't go all crazy.

And I guess it goes without saying that this isn't a member's music thing, just in case anyone is wondering. :D

LoathsomePete 08-05-2010 08:52 PM

Actually I don't mind if users mix in their own tunes with their mixes, just don't go overboard.

I'd just rather them point their own tunes to the MB Records release thread, as that's what the point of it was all about. But if it's just singles, which the MB Records thing doesn't allow, then it sounds like a nice compromise to me. :D

FaSho 08-07-2010 07:45 AM

I'm in. This sounds great. I have a personal 8tracks account already, but I can send future mixes to you as well.

James 08-07-2010 07:53 AM

I'm in on this.
