[Suggestion] Blogger Challenge

We have a fairly strong Blogger community up there, and I thought today as I read around "What if we proposed an idea - about anything - and said to anyone who wanted to participate "Here's the topic, write whatever."

From there we could make a separate thread for that months submissions or have a deeper conversation about the topic with the non-blogging community.

I don't know, what do you guys think?

I like it. Go for it.

I like the idea. My problem with blogs is having to have posts approved, I really think people should just e able to post freely and have mods treat it like other forums.

I disagree. I think it's good that posts need to be approved because it cuts down on the potential trolling and abuse that could occur depending on the nature of the blogs. Knowing that anything is pre-moderated forces a level of thought and 'professionalism' (for lack of a better term) into every post and reply made to the subforum.

Having said that, is this thread proposal in regards to Member Journals (which for the most part seem to act like blogs) or the actual Blogs where you need to find the directory by clicking on the 'Blogging' drop down menu in the user bar at the top of the screen (just to the left of New Posts)?

The original intention behind this was that the blogs author would approve the posts themselves but the admin couldn't do this.

Having mods approve them was the next best thing.

Fair enough. I only say it because imo It would help out with posts/conversations since the time to wait is much shorter before post is up. Not only that but it would take a load off of mods.

Has their been spamming trouble there in the past?

I like this idea. I've been trying to come up with something to motivate people to get into writing, but this is broader and more reasonable than anything I've conceived yet. I think the only risk is in people not mustering the energy to partake.

I'll do it.

Whats the topic?
