In theory, that's a good idea. In practice, I don't think it would work so well since there are hundreds of different recordings of pretty much every piece by every big composer, done by different performers who interpret the music differently. Or actually, maybe one or two works by composers nominated could be chosen, and only ONE specific recording of that piece, so that we'd all be listening to the same thing. I would definitely run something like this but I'd have to see what the general interest is first. I won't nominate anything avant-garde for the unseasoned listeners among this community, more like the popular stuff first and then branch out from there...

Would that work?

I am here to learn about artists I am not familiar with yet, or perhaps have forgotten about over the years. This site has shown me that I can always learn more,regardless of how much I think I already know about a particular style of music, artist, era, etc.

Finding about other people and their interests can often be entertaining.

No, the local band stuff is not particularly useful to me.

I'm still not entirely certain why I'm here. I mean, I did pop out for a year after my initial registration, but regardless, I think part of it is just that I like the eclecticism here. I'm definitely interested in expanding my horizons and finding new and unusual things to listen to.

Also, I noted the lack of activity in the classical section. I'm not about to claim I'm an absolute authority on classical music just because I'm an undergrad music major, but I'd love to participate in any classical-related activity. I can even engage in more in-depth theoretical analysis, considering that's my specialty.

Really, being a forum veteran, I think the social dynamic of a forum is just as important to me as the topical content, so it's nice to see that here as well.

That's exactly what I'm looking for. One of my biggest obstacles in getting more into classical has been not knowing which recording of which piece I should check out. I'd love it if there was a place for people to nominate specific recordings.

And with you, me, Zyrada and Trollheart, it looks like we already have four participants.

Hmmm, since it's obvious that this is something people (meaning 3 of you and me, lol) do WANT to see here, I'll set something up. Let me take some time and look through other album clubs to see how things are generally done.
