Talk Instruments Sub-Forum: Tab/Sheet Music

I'd love to have a sub-forum that was just links to free, and endorsed tab/sheet music.

To be honest I don't see a great deal of need for that - A sticky that linked to ultimate-guitar.com would accomplish the same, and not just in normal tab, but also for guitar pro, which is far superior.

Note to big 3 - acquire guitar pro, profit!

I don't think there will ever be enough demand for a section like that. If anyone looking for sheet music or books is anything like me, they will go to their peers, classmates, friends, etc. first for hard copies and website recommendations before coming to a forum to ask people online. For sheet music in particular, most musicians will acquire it from a store, their teacher, or by word-of-mouth from their network of colleagues and classmates (if they are a student).

Edit: Are you looking for something in particular?

Well, let me tell you why I proposed it and maybe you can suggest something better.

1. I find a lot of dispute about tab/sheet music and its validity.

2. I'd love to know whats a good song to start with and what isn't. i.e. that song is probably a level 3, here try this level 2 (or something along those lines).

3. Tips/tricks/technique stuff associated with some of the trickier parts of a given song.

Big 3 -

1 - The fact is there isn't an awful lot of "accredited" tab out there, and much of it still has errors. For example, nobody in their right mind would make the claim that nirvana's "smells like teen spirit" used anything more amazing than a simple powerchord. The official tab book makes the claim it's a suspended 4th. It's wrong.

Combine that with the fact that most of the debate over how accurate tab is on the net, is by people who remember the dark days of OLGA, rather than having accepted that these days much of the online tab is very good, again, particularly if you use guitar pro.

2 - Honestly, better done through discussion and asking questions - There's only so far a generic list can go, and on a forum like this, people are going to want more personalised suggestions than 20 beatles songs, 5 RHCP songs, and another 20 assorted Led Zep ACDC and Doors tracks.

3 - Again, better done via discussion than a megathread I think.

Its settled then. If I have a question, I'll just PM GuitarBizarre. ;)

Tabs on the Internet are usually not that accurate. Sometimes even tabs in store bought books are not, just as GB stated. Same goes with orchestral sheet music, especially if it's a transcription.

Your own ears are your best judgment when it comes to learning a song.
